The Story

The 601 Tee Shirt from Taiga Takahashi traces the form of the original American undergarment T-shirt, a piece developed for wear beneath military uniforms and built around purely functional, rational design. The construction follows the traditional 'marudo' tubular body, with openings cut only for the neck and sleeves, maintaining a straight shoulder line, a boat-neck-like collar, and a double-layered neck rib. The tubular jersey is slowly knitted on a rare loopwheel machine in Wakayama, the only region in the world where these machines remain in operation, producing roughly a metre of fabric an hour and yielding a soft, airy hand with quiet irregularity. Finished in Mud Dyed Brown, each piece is dyed by hand using traditional mud dye techniques, lending every garment a singular expression.

  • 100% American cotton
  • Tubular 'marudo' construction
  • Loopwheel-knitted in Wakayama, Japan
  • Hand mud-dyed in brown
  • Straight shoulder line, boat-neck-style collar
  • Double-layered neck rib
  • Made in Japan
  • Elliot is 183cm and is wearing a size 40
